Old Cooch’s Bridge Road: Review of Metal Detector Survey Report
– W.L. Gore & Associates. Application 20051249. TP 11-018.00-059,
11-018.00-061, and 11-022.00-015.Let's substitute green for developments.
The ultimate recycling would be buying all these foreclosed houses and letting the area around Cooch's Bridge remain a park--NOT a housing development.Sorry for short notice on this, but I thought you might like to know that the Gore property near Cooch’s Bridge, which is currently being reviewed for a major subdivision plan, is on the public agenda for the Historic Review Board of New Castle County tonight at 5pm.
At the behest of the board, Gore completed an archeological study (metal detector survey) of the property and identified a large number of Revolutionary War related artifacts (buckles, lead shot, buttons, etc.) that are likely associated with the battle and the encampments from the fall of 1777. Pretty exciting stuff. The board will accept public comment tonight at their meeting, and this is the opportunity to hear from the attorney’s representing Gore about the project.
It would be helpful for those who feel they can make it to be present and voice their position to the Board during the public comment period. It is likely that this may be the only opportunity to do so, should the board decide to close the comment period after the hearing.
Perhaps you could forward this announcement to your vast network of heritage supporters, so they are also aware of the hearing. Thanks
There is not much on the agenda for the Board, and this is the first item on the agenda

Nancy, I went last night and sat there but noticed Wade Cats was not on the board anymore, when did he come off and why???
I also feel this would be a great area for Delawares first National Park....
Hmmmmmm interesting, if he has been removed then looks like the Clark/Scott team got a victory..
Let us know Nancy..
Wase Catts is off of the Historic Review Board. Whether he left willingly or not, I can't say.
I do think that Wade can be an advocate from off of the 'bench' in a way that he could not being an impartial member of an advisory council.
WADE IS THE MAN!!!
And this is a battlefield that should be preserved for all Delawareans.
I will have a report ready to publish soon on the meeting's outcome. There are some real shockers on what Chis Coons' is up to and what his GORE lawyers have done with the county land use process to skew and hide the fact that this cherished heritage lands his family business bought in 1999 is land that he has sworn by oath of office to protect. Yet he as entertained both sides of the aisle by entering into discussions of land swaps etc. that never 'panned out'.
Something should be done to ensure that this amazing battlefield site is made into parkland and the Revolutionary War features of the La Grange farm should be made available for public enjoyment and education (not to mention the tourism dollars that a great interpretive walking/biking path would bring).
The grotesque greed of the last decade is what brought these lands under development threat. We can do better.
